Getting Started with Dreamweaver 8

Evan Bend, Instructor

Go WYSIWYG (wizzywig - What You See Is What You Get) with Dreamweaver! This class will cover the basics you will need to know in order to create simple web pages. Good for people new to Dreamweaver or as a refresher course for those who have learned it on their own. Bring a disk to save your work on!
Prerequisites: XHTML Basics or permission of the instructor.

XHTML Basics

Evan Bend, Instructor

Learn the basic XHTML tags needed to create simple web pages. WWW design basics will also be discussed. Time will be available for hands-on practice, so bring a disk to save your work on! Note: this class is a prerequisite for Getting Started with Dreamweaver.
Prerequisites: familiarity with the Internet or permission of the instructor.

Using Include Files

Evan Bend, Instructor

Learn how to use include files to simplify the maintenance of your web site! Include files are great to use for menus, addresses, footers, headers, etc. so you'll only have to edit them once instead of on every page on which they have been included. It's easy!
Prerequisites: XHTML Basics, Getting Started with Dreamweaver or permission of the instructor.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)

Evan Bend, Instructor

Using CSS can simplify your XHTML code and give you greater control over your web page designs. No more font and font size tags! YAY! You'll need to be comfortable with looking at code, so this isn't for the faint at heart.
Prerequisites: XHTML Basics, Getting Started with Dreamweaver or permission of the instructor.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Beth Carpenter, Instructor

Explore web design basics on this tour of good, bad and downright ugly library web sites! Learn what you can do to make your library's web site user-friendly, attractive, and helpful.
Prerequisite: familiarity with the Internet.

Creating Web Bibliographies & Pathfinders

Beth Carpenter, Instructor

Web bibliographies and pathfinders are now more useful than ever before due to the ability to create links to OWLSnet online resources. This class will teach you how to create direct links into InfoSoup, how to use Gale Database Infomarks, and will give you ideas for great value-added resources you can create for your library's web site. Time will be made available for hands-on practice and exploration, so bring a disk to save your work on.
Prerequisite: Getting Started with Dreamweaver or permission of the instructor.

Web Graphics: Manipulating Images

Beth Carpenter, Instructor

Explore how to "touch up" already existing graphics, convert images for the web, and more! We will be using Photoshop Limited Edition, which will be made available for use on the OWLS lab computers during scheduled open lab times.
Prerequisites: XHTML Basics, Getting Started with Dreamweaver or permission of the instructor.
