Gale Group Databases 101

Explore General Reference Center, Health & Wellness Resource
Center, Business & Company
Resource Center, Biography Resource Center and Literature Resource Center.
You will learn how to navigate the main features of each database, how to use
the different search capabilities in each, and more. Good for people new to
these databases!
Prerequisite: You must be comfortable using the Internet.
Getting Started With Ancestry & HeritageQuest

Ancestry Library Edition and HeritageQuest databases contain a vast and almost overwhelming amount of genealogical, local history and reference materials. This class will provide an overview of the major resources available, including census records, immigration records, directories, military records, vital statistics, and local and family histories. We will cover:
- Browsing the collections
- Searching the collections by name and place
- Viewing, saving, and printing records
This class is not about genealogy, but more about becoming comfortable searching and exploring these two products.
No prerequisites, but coming prepared with some family names or names of prominent local citizens, dates, & places to search will make the class more interesting and productive.
Learning Express Test Preparation

The Learning Express
Library also includes basic reading, writing, and math skills improvement
for school children and adults. A "skills improvement" section is also
included with Spanish language instruction. Learn how to help your patrons
use this valuable resource!

OverDrive Overview

This class will teach you everything you need to know to use and help your patrons use OverDrive audiobooks and the new OverDrive video collection, including:
- What is OverDrive, how to access the collection, and who can use the collection
- What software and hardware is needed, and how to download the OverDrive Media Console
- How to search the collection, add items to your cart, check out, and download books to your computer
- How to listen to books on your computer, how to burn books to CD (when allowed), and how to transfer a book to a portable digital device
- What is Windows DRM (digital rights management) and why OverDrive doesn't play well with the iPod
- What are the benefits of using OverDrive, what does the future hold, and what are some of the other common questions and concerns associated with OverDrive.
Prerequisites: Basic computer skills and a library card.
Post-Crescent Database

but if you still need some tips on how to use it well, then this class
is for you.
