2006 TidbitsThis issue of Tidbits is dedicated to a few cool tools I've come across lately. Try them out and enjoy!
If you're using Firefox as your Internet browser, you just might get addicted
to Morning Coffee. This extension keeps track of daily routine websites and opens
them in tabs for you to view. What a great way to manage those sites you read
on a regular basis! Simply organize the sites you want to visit by day and then
Firefox will open them simultaneously as a part of your daily routine. It's really
easy to use and makes staying up-to-date quite simple.
If you're curious and want to give it a try, the extension can be downloaded at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2677/. Enjoy!
Flickr is an awesome photo sharing site and if you're already using it, you'll probably get a kick out of fd's flickr toys. This site calls itself "Producers of fine toys and amusements for your digital photographs since 2005," and contains a ton of fun tools to make the most out of the photos you've loaded to Flickr.
One of my favorites is the Trading
Card Maker. Why not use this tool to create your very own trading card and
then use it as your business card? Might be a little more fun than the traditional
versions. Take a look at some of the Librarian
Trading Cards people have posted
to Flickr. Another optional business card might be a MOO
card which uses any
of your Flickr images to make small cards on which you can include your personal
info.
Other fd's Flickr Toys that might be fun to use at your library include Magazine Cover, Movie Poster, Slideshow or Motivator. Give yourself permission to play a little!
Create your own music station with Pandora. Simply tell Pandora a song or artist that you like and it will help you find more music that is similar. If you like what you hear, you can save it and make it into your very own music station. You can create up to 100 stations, and if you don't mind a few ads it's all available for free. It's a great way to discover new artists you may not have heard of before. Why not recommend it to your music-loving patrons?
Farewell until next time from the library system where all the computers are fast, all the books are worth reading, and all the librarians are above average!
