Change your default font in MS Word

Not a big Times New Roman fan? Neither am I, and rather than have to change the font in every document I create, I would rather set it once and be good to go. Save yourself some time and just change Word's default font to the one of your choice!

(I may have covered this tip in a Tidbits issue before, but it's one that I always want to do and never remember how. So I'm sticking it in here again in case you need a reminder, too.)

Here's how:

  1. Click FORMAT > FONT on the menu bar.
  2. Select the font you would like all of your documents to use.
(You can also set the color, style, size and anything else you see in this Font window.)
  3. Click the DEFAULT button.
  4. Click YES to accept your changes.

You're set! No need to fiddle around anymore. Ahhhh.

Repeat formatting commands in a flash! (MS Word)

Here's another great Word tip that will save you some time when formatting your documents.

There are times when you are creating documents that you'll find yourself applying the same formatting over and over again. Maybe it's a strikethrough as you edit an existing document or maybe it's a font or color change. Whatever it might be, you can use the F4 key to repeat the last toolbar button change you applied.

Better yet, if you're making formatting changes via a dialog box, F4 will allow you to repeat all of the changes made in the dialog box.

And even better yet, if you happen to be using Word 2002 or 2003, you can select noncontinguous words by holding down the CONTROL key then use the F4 key to repeat your last change to all of the selections at once.

Cool beans!

Save all open documents at once (MS Word)

What da hey, let's make this issue all about Word, huh?

Saving your documents several times when you are working on them is a good idea in case of a power surge or computer error, right? Well, if you tend to work on several documents at the same time, this can be a hassle. Here's an easy way to save all of your open docs and save yourself some time in the process:

  1. Hold down the SHIFT key.
  2. Click on FILE > SAVE ALL on the menu bar.

It's fast. It's simple. It's safe.
