Clear out IE's temp files automatically

It can sometimes be helpful to clear out your Internet browser's temporary files, especially if you want to force the browser to go out and snatch the current version of a page rather than serve up the cached temp version. Or maybe an OWLS staff person has asked you to "clear your browser's cache" when trying to help you troubleshoot a browser problem.

If you're using Internet Explorer 6, you can set it to clear the temp files automatically each time you close the browser. This is much more handy than going through the steps of clearing the temp files manually when you have problems, and it will likely help your browser run more efficiently.

Here's how you can set IE's temp files to automatically clear on exit:

  1. Go to TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS.
  2. Click on the ADVANCED tab.
  3. Scroll way down to the bottom of the list and check the "Empty Temporary Internet Files Folder When Browser Is Closed" box.
  4. Click OK.

Aligning tables in MS Word

Want to change how your table lines up within a document? You can easily change your table's alignment by following these steps:

  1. Select the table (this can be done by clicking anywhere in the table).
  2. Select TABLE > TABLE PROPERTIES on the menu bar.
  3. Select the TABLE tab.
  4. Under ALIGNMENT, select the one you would like (left, center or right).
  5. Click OK.

If you would like to use left alignment but you would also like to exert more control over where the table lands, you have another option:

  1. Follow steps 1-3 above.
  2. If you have chosen LEFT under ALIGNMENT and NONE under TEXT WRAPPING, the INDENT option will be available.
  3. Specify the distance you would like to indent your table on the page.
