Ethics & MySpace
Please join us for a wonderful OWLS workshop opportunity, "Ethics, MySpace and the Public Library" on Thursday, December, 6, 2007, 9:30 AM - 12 noon at the Appleton Public Library. The workshop presenter will be Dr. Elizabeth Buchanan, Director, Center for Information Policy Research at UW-Milwaukee. Here's the program description:
You look around your public Internet workstations and notice that many users are logged on to MySpace or other social networking sites. You have an Internet Acceptable Use Policy but what other issues does your library need to consider? This workshop will explore how public libraries are responding to the MySpace phenomena by looking at emerging ethical issues such as privacy and responsibility, pending legislation, and policy responses. The workshop will be discussion based, with lecture and group activities. Dr. Buchanan, Associate Professor and Director for the Center of Information Policy Research at UW-Milwaukee, is a well-known scholar on the topics of information policy and ethics.
