The
Learning Light
A site that helps libraries, schools, and community organizations meet the needs
of their Spanish speaking customers and students. Includes handouts in Spanish
to explain the Dewey Decimal System. Notice the link to S.O.L., Spanish
in Our Libraries, which lists other useful sites to visit.
Family Village
"A global community that includes informational resources on specific diagnoses,
communication connections, adaptive products and technology, adaptive recreational
activities, education, worship, health issues, disability-related media and literature,
and much, much more" is how Family Village describes itself. The
Family Village Bookstore has resource lists in different formats (books,
periodicals, videos, tapes) for multiple audiences. A very useful and interesting
site from the Weisman Center in Madison, Wisconsin. The Center is "dedicated
to the advancement of knowledge about human development and developmental disabilities
throughout the lifespan."
Wisconsin Yellow Pages for
Kids with Disabilities
A directory of resources for parents, care providers, educators, and others interested
in children with disabilities. There's a lot to explore and learn here. From

Serving Children with Special Needs: An Annotated Bibliography (Fall
2000)
This bibliography was compiled by Claudia Backus, Children's Services Coordinator,
and Nancy Fletcher, Special Needs and Reference Librarian, at the Waukesha County
Federated Library System. It includes fiction and non-fiction for children and
for young adults, as well as videos, books for parents and caregivers, and materials
for a professional collection.

Services to Older Adults Guidelines
From ALA. The guidelines identify and discuss seven major areas of concern
in offering library services to older adults: integrating library services
for seniors into the overall library plan, budget, and service program; assuring
seniors access to library buildings, materials, and programs; treating all
older adults with respect at every service point; utilizing the experience
and expertise of older adults; providing and promoting information and resources
on aging; providing library services appropriate to the needs of older adults;
and collaborating with community agencies and groups serving older adults.
