Can't figure out a CTS from an FVLC? Use these lists to help clear the fog. YMMV!

Library Acronyms

Fox Valley Library Council's (FVLC) Wisconsin Library Association (WLA) Acronyms List
If you're confused by all of the acronyms that make up the sections of WLA, systems in Wisconsin, and a few other Wisconsin services, then this is the place for you.

Library Acronyms
The Winnefox Library System has collected a fine list of acronyms for their Trustee Manual. Many of Wisconsin's library terms are described here, so take a look if you're a local. Their resource library, Oshkosh Public Library, has also posted a list of library acronyms for the public.

Illinois Specific Library Acronyms
The Illinois Library System's list includes terms specific to their state, but it's still a good list.

Email, Chat & Text Messaging Acronyms

Here's the 411 on chat acronyms: it's a completely different language! What does b/c mean? And how about eod, fwiw, or g2g? Learn how to use today's mobile/online language, by checking out the sites below. If you're offering or planning on offering Instant Messaging reference service, you'll need to spend some time here first!

Since mobile language is so different, you may want to make wiredsafety.org's Text Messaging Safety page available to your teens. It talks about understanding the messages you are receiving and even points to a site that will translate SMS and IM messages for you, so you can tell what you're getting into.

General Acronym Sites

The Internet Acronym Server
Enter an acronym and find out what it stands for. Allows you to submit acronyms for entry in the site!

Acronym Finder
Same as the site above, more or less, but includes an acronym blog that discusses the latest news and info about Acronym Finder and related sites.

If you can't find what you need in the sites above, the Google and Yahoo directories include lists of acronym sites on the Web. Dig through some of those, and you just might find your answer.

TTFN!
